Hello from Canada

Postby Swede » Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:45 am

Hi guys,

Yeah, I'm not an Aussie. I think some of you may recognize my handle from over on AD, I certianly recognize some of you here. Just popped in to have a look around, and pipe up every now and again.

I'm not new to distilling, I've been at this for over 5 years now, and have built up quite the stockpile of equipment, knowledge, and of course, booze. I think this is a great hobby, and always look forward to discussing it with like minded folk.

During the time I've been involved in this hobby, I've taken things step by step, starting with a Bok mini and turbo yeasts, and from there graduated to an offset LM still. Later, I got set up with a keg, and built a potstill head and thumper for it along with a VM column. I've been all electric since day 1, and recently constructed a very versatile control panel for my keg boiler. I also do some home malting of barley, and all grain brewing.

Anyway, enough about me, I'm looking forward to making some new friends here.

Swede, from Canada..... :)

Hi Swede

it would be interesting to get some information about your home malted barley and how you do it when you have time.

welcome to Aussie Distillers :)

Absolutely, I'd be happy to. I have a few videos on youtube that show my rotary malt floor, and I recently adapted a small clothes dryer into a malt kiln.

I will start another thread about the system that I have, in the meantime, here is a link to the youtube videos.

Here is the rotary malting floor, http://youtu.be/iHQ4WWADh18
Here is another look at the malting process, http://youtu.be/MqezBydQD1k
Here, I'm milling the malt in my homemade roller mill. http://youtu.be/Tx-9yjSFTT0
