Mate, they look shit hot! you're a master machinist.

Will get cracking on the copper rings after work this week, I bought a set of holesaws the other day :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers guys, I'll keep chipping away. One step at a time!

This arvo I cut a little sleeve for the bottom water inlet on the PC, didn't get around to soldering it on though. I did solder the beak on the parrot though!

This is hard soldered, the head will be soft soldered onto the 1" body. I hate desoldering stuff!

Just spent about an hour chasing leaks in the PC. Only got a couple of pinholes to go!

Instead of the sleeve around the water inlet, I made a ring out of some heavy gauge copper wire and soldered it in :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The top plate of the PC is too far down the body (about 60mm) so I need to cut some out of the 2" so I can effectively solder it in. Tomorrow's job!

Bit of both. I'll cut the 2" down a bit tomorrow so I can get in there properly and clean it up and try again.

Solder... My MAPP torch didn't have enough grunt to braze the plates in like I wanted to... Should've just left them and oxy'd them in later :angry-banghead:

bummer. had a similar problem with my first one. i stood it up and fluxed the whole face after cleaning it with some hydrochloric acid, then put chopped up bits of solder all around and slowly heated the whole thing up and then it was all soldered face and all. Kinda ugly and expensive but it worked :laughing-rolling:

Ill find out how hard it is to do my PC with oxy/map next week with 5% silver brazing rods. :?

Ill probably do the same...

Oxy and silver solder is so much easier... No flux, no fucking around, just point the flame where you want the solder to go.

Well the other day I bought a set of holesaws for $10... Knew it sounded too cheap! Managed to almost cut one copper ring for my sight glasses before the 1 3/4" saw was fucked :laughing-rolling: ah well.

Then I tried to cut the 2" hole out of my blockhead, and ate the other holesaw doing that... So I gave up and glued the head onto my parrot, now I've called it a night.

I'm not sure how I'm going to run a fores drain yet, so I haven't touched the bottom of the parrot.

Yeah unfortunately you get what you pay for with tools. Many times I have broken the cheap arse stuff, got the shits and just bought quality. But not all my tools are quality, just the ones I use alot.

Parrot looks sweet, lucky you have plenty of stainless valves to choose from for you drain :O)

I used a Viper hole saw by Sutton tools, You can buy the core and only the sizes you need instead of a whole (get it!) kit.
Not sure what sizes they go up to but mine held up just fine with cutting all the holes in my plates, just kept a little WD-40 going in every now and then and presto. Not too exxy either from memory.

A $10 set will most likely be Carbon Steel, you want Bi-Metal hole saws

I realise that now! I was just in the hardware grabbing some other stuff and saw them, thought I'd have a go. Lesson learnt!

Tomorrow night I'll have another crack at the PC, or at least get the bottom reducer for it sorted.

Eh Zac with those copper rings for the sight glass that need to cut out of that thick plate if you haven't done them yet just bring em up and I'll cut them out on the mill by trepanning them, while it's setup the pcd holes can also be drilled and tapped. It is an easy job and shouldn't take too long mate either.

Cheers Bryan

Can't argue with that, Bryan! I'll cut the plates square and clean them up and bring them out next time.
