Went to see my mate at the scrap yard a couple of days ago and came home with these.

It looks a lot but each piece is about 1200mm long.
:D :D :D

What size are those pipes??? :scared-eek:

150mm, 100mm, 75mm, 50mm, 40mm, 30mm, 25mm. :D :D

Possibly even some 13mm in there as well.

I guess that answers the question, why are you building another bubbler? Cause you can. Haha :))

Hey Dom
Actually I'm building another for several reasons.
1: I can. :teasing-neener: :D

2:Found the 4" still a bit slow compared to what I thought it would be like.

3: I like working in copper, this gives me an excuse to do so. :D

4: Wanted to see just how good a 6" still could be.

The great part about a modular still is you can swap and change it around as you want.
The plates can be changed for experiment sake and you can add to it later.
:handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

When I finish this one I will clean up the 4" and sell it, so I can make other projects.

So after a small break, I've managed to get a bit done.

Previously bought a piece of 6.5mm brass plate from the scrap yard bloke.
With a little bit of a tight squeeze I got ten flanges out of it.
Here's too many photos, showing how it went.

That was fun yesterday.

And this afternoon tried throwing bits of grinding grit and brass in my eyes...
It worked.

But finished up with these.

Now all I need is a few sight glasses and I can finish them off.
But that won't be for a week or so.

So to answer your question a month and a half later

The brass rings are for this.

And then they look like this after polishing.

Then of course I needed to colour it

Thanks Guys

This was to be a quick build and just get it used, but things got in the way.
So now I figure I'll just tick it along and any refinements it needs will happen slowly.

Still have the 4" so don't really need the 6", it is just an experiment to see how fast a 6" is.
Plenty of time to pretty it up. :D

So I made a start on the PC today.
Have just enough 3" to complete it.
Start hammering out the flanges, in my own little world.
Stand back and admire the work.... orsh, forgot to put the 1/4" rings on before starting the second flange didn't I. :angry-banghead:

Hmmmm - Na.... not going to cut one flange off to get the rings on, not enough length in this pipe as is..... think, think
OK how about this, cut the rings and make them a good fit.... don't solder them up.
Bend them and slip them over the flange.

Press the ends past each other and tap until they look right.
Bend the ends so they touch. :D :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just got to remember not to do this too often :oops: 8-}

DBV your work is beautiful...but you have patience way and above my own. I love the colour and look of your column...very Jules Verne 20,000 leagues under the sea. Cheers mate.

Thanks Doc
Will have to come down to Kentucky one day and sample your vodka :D
And pick up a few tips.

So I've decided I need a larger acid bath, this one just doesn't cut it. :handgestures-thumbdown:

Trying to remember what I did for the original one on "steampunk the build" ????

Anyway that's what I got done today as well as some grinding up of plates for the RC.

Anyone remember "Thunderbirds"?
EVERYONE remembers them.
At the start of the program they showed bits of the machinery they used and you had to guess what the hell you were looking it.
Here's my version.

So .... "what chu lookin at?"

No takers?
OK
It goes here.
DSCN3932.JPG

But I have yet to make the parrot.

Would have finished that and the PC and the new RC
Cept I ran out of oxy with about 10 minutes of work left to do on the RC.
:angry-banghead: :handgestures-thumbdown:

Maybe next weekend.

Decided to change from the smaller 4" RC as I suspect the heat I will be throwing at this will overwhelm it.

So this is as far as I got this weekend.

Thanks Gents
I am humbled by your comments

So here's tonight's offering.
Got plenty of oxy now... so let's use it. :D
Don't you just love the colour change copper goes through when heated.
Sometimes wish I could control it better and keep it one colour.
DSCN3934 (Copy).JPG

The PC is coming up well and now just needs a couple of threaded ends to finish.
Haven't had time to test it yet.
DSCN3935 (Copy).JPG

Also upgraded my acid bath.
DSCN3937 (Copy).JPG

The RC is also finished except for threaded ends.

Still working on the parrot.
Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks mate it is getting there slooooowly.

Didn't get as far ahead as I would have liked this weekend, but progress was made.
DSCN3938 (Copy).JPG

Finished soldering up the PC and RC except for fittings, clean up takes some time.
More clean up this week before adding the final touched to them.

Started setting up the cooling system as well.
