Hi guys just purchased a second hand 3” bubbler which can be interchanged with another column to make a pot still..
Good bye t500 although it taught me the basics..
Time to make some real stuff
I’m interested in making rums and bourbons with the occasional neutral..
I’ve been told that I should stick with the pot still for rums and bubbler for bourbon..
Is this the case?
Also the still hasn’t been used for a couple years, is it wise to do a vinegar run and sacrificial run for good measure..

Yep do a vinegar run and sac run too just to be safe.

I would use the bubbler for rums as well. I can't see a reason not too? If you want more flavour just pull a plate out and run with 3.

If you want to make neutral you'll need a packed section.

Best of luck :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yep do a cleaning run before you put a drinking wash through it.

Bubbles can make good flavoured drinks, smooth, clean and delicious.
A lot of people like pot stilled brown drinks, they just take longer to age out the tails.

If you keep the RC shut, a bubbler is basically a pot still...

:text-+1: except that there's extra heat up time with all that extra metal... But you probably won't notice it, and if you've only got the one boiler then you've gotta factor in stripping down your bubbler, connecting up your pot still and then rebuilding your bubbler again. I always do what Zak just said.

Why strip? It's a bubbler. That's the best thing about a bubbler, single runs. I know some people like to strip their neutral for a cleaner product but I definitely wouldn't bother for brown spirits :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I found to much funk in pot stilled rum. I do single run on rum and whiskey(all types) through bubbler..collect at about 88% prob bit high but I like it :handgestures-thumbupleft:
