I used to make a Black Sambucca knock off years ago, but fucked if I can remember the recipe :angry-banghead:

Cheers :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You gotta keep the brownie points up, or it all goes pear shaped.

Your rig will make a real fine bourbon. That I can assure you. As for rum, I have never run any through mine so I can say definatly.
I'm tipping you had a little too much gap between the notched ferrules and the coulmn before soldering. I did say if you hard solderd them the fit needs to be spot on. They will pull on cooling. But...thats just metalwork.
Copper is soft and you should be able to pull them flat. Sit something flat on them, shine a torch on it and look for light.
I'll bet my lefty that they are warped the same way as the column is round. Blacksmithing required. They should be nice and soft from soldering.
If not, you got my left one.

As for the no cups theory, its been working sweet for me. It seems to purify quicker than other stills claim.
As for neutral, you won't make the perfect one, but twice through and you'll get close enough.

I hope to have the mongrel running in the next few weeks, then I'll decide its fate.
If I can't get what I want the mongrels going down for good. :violence-stickwhack:

Cheers croweater, I'm just glad I finally found a solution to the sight glass issues I had, looking forward to seeing
it completed & seeing how the plates perform.

Well done mate. Looking good.

Just make sure you got lots of stuff to run, as I think you'll want it. You can do, I dunno, maybe 5 or 6 runs in a weekend? Comfortably.
Assuming all lawn mowing, washing dishes, etc are done, that is.

O.K guy's, the Mongrel works :happy-partydance:
I've been playing with the heat settings on the burner & seeing how the plates react & I've found the sweet spot on this rig
Much less heat than I thought it would take, don't have any notes for take off speed, too busy watching bubbles :D
Anyway took some pics & a quick video, will try & get them up tonight.
I'm gonna have a couple of rums & get some sleep.

Cheers :handgestures-thumbupleft:
