kk,

So finished the fittings and did a cheapy poly pipe run from tank to still and return. new Bunno's AquaPro sump pump...wow does it belt, couple of inline pressure reliefs in place.
Gave the still a good clean ready for a final clean up and clear coat once this bloody weather in Adelaide backs off and we're done.

Time to make piss after a 3 month layoff. How's a malt grain & sugar head go again ? :))

Nearly there

Great to see you had a go BT, Like you I had few tools and no prior experience working with copper or solder. I think in the end those things just add to the sense of achievement when you do get finished. Now its time to enjoy the fruits of your labor........enjoy :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I reckon you'll make a difference to any quest with that one mate.
I'm interested to see how the packed section goes on a nice neutral wash...

Never forget what made you happy first...a pot!

At 23c btw in case anyone asks

The dance of the devil
Image013.jpg

This ball valve has got to go...1/2" movement equals 10 abv pts it's just not fine enough...tomorrow a 10 + wind gate valve goes in
Image019.jpg

Speed test
That's a good .5lt plus some in a bees dick(5min 32 sec) @95% + and no adjustment to temp...happy to say the least! :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:
Image020.jpg

a few comments...

Ball valve is crap it gets replaced tomorrow. You where right EG...it's precision needed here
Dam it's f'ing quick Like I'm staggered at how it belts out
It's easier to drive than expected... just run it on reflux
I've plenty of heat left to play with even with the retro 3 ring on std regulator
Those dumb looking feet and face cups piss spirit all over the plate below like it's a spray effect...much better than expected :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:
Not all plates work equally...need to spend some thinking time on this
Heads compress, then heats flow then tails is like a complete plate deload
The bypass forces the remaining 4 plates to work like bastards...fully loaded and a 5- 8% abv change

that's about all I can think off for now...tomorrow 2 x 60 lt washes get the treatment as per EG's request for a neutral wash test

happy as :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:

Nice mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: didn't realize the sightgalsses were so.full on runs, does.it tone down further into the run?. Wouldn't be able to see anything if it didn't.

googe,

To early foe me to say what the go is here as first run...2 more today.

I can say on observation that:

there's at least two periods in run that plates unloaded with a corresponding change in abv at parrot. Oddly there was noticeable surge in output.

At the "end" and not even sure it was the end, plates dropped back to about 2- 3mm spirit covering and abv started to drop off. Tails I suspect but don't know for sure.
the "end' was more about the 5 lt mason jar being full than actually finding at this stage the mystical perf plate tails indicators.

more experience driving required

Great job BT,now all you gotta do is hook in and get this party started :handgestures-thumbupleft:
When running a first build,be it a pot or a bubbler, considering all the time and effort put into it,there is always that 'small' element of doubt banging around in the back of your head.'is it gunna work','have I done everything right',etc. I know when I built the 8"er,the first time I bolted it to the boiler and fired up the 747,all I could think was,"fuck, what if it don't work?"
But,when everything starts going according to plan,or pretty close to it,you breathe a HUGE sigh of relief, then do a little dance around the shed :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:
Great job mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: I can only hope that your build logs will inspire others out there who doubt their skills and patience,to hook in and have a go :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Well done, you should be very proud

Bt1

Loved your work.Got a question about the "plate drains"

Guessing these are so you can bypass a plate to run as 4,5 or 6 ?

How has this worked for you ?

Howdy,

Really only used it twice so far and it drops abv about 5 pts. The reason is I need to settle two parallel washes and run in both modes to test and I just haven't got to it yet.

been resolving a output/heat issue, think I nailed it this weekend.. Test next Saturday I guess.

cheers

The cure for refluxer Gins...a caddy that breaths and allows vapour to pass freely in 2" Slot it in just above your PC and reduce cleaning and stop separation and loss of gin ingredients when run in old school mode up the col.
