build doc

Postby tickle » Fri Sep 21, 2012 3:56 am

been gettin a ton of help here guys, thanks. in the process of building a 4" bubble cap, while its far from what you artist are doing, thought i'd share my attempt to keep up! pic of the dephlag (also posted in the accessory board)[attachment=2]dephlag2.JPG
the caps, and the mock up. will be cutting in sight glasses soon:will be making them from 2" brass adapters. plates will be inserted between the clamps, (ala dash 2 design...what can i say? imitation is the most sincere form of compliment :handgestures-thumbupleft: )

i know it looks like the leaning tower of pizza, adjustments have been made!

used mac's easy flange process. found all i needed to do was braze the 1/4" tubing tight to the 4", no hammered flare. few more odds n ends, hope to make a cleaning run this weekend.

still sorting the gaskets in between the clamps, but i did make the sight glass gaskets from the baking sheets as recommended. final plumbing, thermometer, few odds and ends and i can call it done. prolly never "finish" though.

will post a pic of the output stream shortly!

Question for the bubble cap pros....my plates are pretty deep. I end up with a fair amount of fluid on them at the end of a run, which ends up "greening" the bits that are immersed. I'm thinking of drilling a small hole in the plates to allow drainage after the boiler is turned off. If small enough, I think they wouldn't cause a change in the plate dynamics (<-- note the feeble attempt to sound smart there? Admit it, you were almost fooled. Almost) as the pressure would be approx the same as, or more than, the pressure to just go through the caps. Or should I just learn a better wat tonclean it at the end of a run, IE not get so messed up that I forget to back flush it. I did see your vids EG, and liked the way you steamed it off, but wonder if even that would be enough. I have added a drain and a fill to the boiler since the last run, so pulling backset out and getting clean water in will be easy in the future but it might be nice to not have fluid stored on the plates until the next run. Just some kinks to sort out for future runs I guess. Kinda pissed at myself for not seeing it before. As my next run was gonna be a cleared wash, looks like more vinagar for me! :violin:

' bubbler?

Hey tickle I think you'll find if you can see the steam it's not alcohol vapor, is your shotgun getting hot ?

I'd think your shotgun should be fine mate, what sort of heat you throwing at it?
