The Double Pumper Mega Bubble Thumper

Postby MacStill » Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:25 pm

Well I thought I would hold back on posting this but now that I've actually built it for our member Micklum it's time to release my latest inline thumper design :happy-partydance:

Had a bit of a brain fart about a new concept for a serious thumper, so here's what I came up with.

Enjoy :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks Mac
I just hijacked my own thought on inline thumper. This looks very promising so guess I'll take another bite off the ever shrinking 4" stock and try something like it. :handgestures-thumbupleft: My head is spinning at the moment but it looks like a good first plate in a column. For a 2-3 plate rum runner :happy-partydance:

So you got an update or anything for us AC ??

I'll be building another one like this for myself, keeping with the reducer as a downcomer so I can mess around with bath heights :D

Sorry Mac I got side tracked on the my valved plate trying to zero in on a controllable liquid depth that shows positive results. I do have 2- 13 gal washes clearing as we speak.
One question that came to me on this plate is having only two 3/4" orifices feeding the column, the vapor speed may have to scream to feed sieve plates above the thumper plate. Maybe only cap type plates above it? Thinking only 2 plates for rum on this type. Still a work in progress but still working at it.

You could be right, this thumper has only been used on a bubble cap column.

My new rig (if it ever gets finished) is going to have 3 different sets of plates to use, so we'll be able to test that theory.

Cheers.

Been making different style plates lately double pumper is on the list. I've made up a bubble cap type and a valve type plate. Both were made as a first plate out of the boiler with liquid level height way above the norm, for experiment, and had a center downcommers that went deep into the boiler for vapor traps. I wasn't getting the results I wanted :crying-blue: so I am converting them back to use as typical plates.
I've altered them to a 2-way distributor to move the return water/diatillate to the outside of the column. After I build it I realized I've seen this before. :o Spent a bit of time looking and could not fine anything but I'm sure it was here. Didn't know what i was looking at then. Not looking to plagiarizer and if results sucked I would like to know. Any help.
