Thanks, I never thought of using 4" copper pipe to chock my trailer wheels, that's brilliant :-B

McStill wrote:After mucking around with adjustable DC's I've found it's not really worth the extra hassle, on our scale of stills it doesn't seem to effect the outcome much at all.

The proven design of the riser being higher than the DC works, I don't see any benefit that can be gained by messing with it.

A tray bath of around 25mm deep works great for me :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks Mac, if I have the riser a 25mm & the DC at 20mm would that work :?:

Cheers

Those measurements will be fine, I just use about 5mm more in height on both :-B

Porn pics, enjoy :D

Plates are 107mm diameter to allow them to fit between the s/s ferrules, the holes are 1/16"(1.59mm) on a 5mm grid,
total of 256 holes per plate.

Image
D.C's will be 3/4" to 1/2" reducers, with a short 1/2" tube in a 3/4" cap.
If I have flooding, I will put larger D.C's in :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A mock up of how they will fit.

s/s ferrule & gasket, with the inside of the gasket removed.

Perfect fit, MR-E is a happy man :happy-partydance:

They will work fine mate, my recent builds have been using almost exactly the same :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I just like the idea of a big wide hole & a skinny bottom :laughing-rolling:

MR-E

Lovi'n your work.

I'm curious about the 1/2 " down comers.
Everyone's going for 3/4" say'n 1/2 " is too small .

So looking at what your doing ,is it the opening that's more important at 3/4" than the down-comer itself ?

cheers Yummyrum

That's a good question
I kinda wanted to rock the boat & give the 1/2" a try.
Mac is running his similar, not sure of the specs :?:
The idea of the bigger opening is that it will help drain the plates, I think having the short 1/2" drain will help as well, I won't know
for sure how it will perform until I fire it up.
One thing I noticed, when I was running with 3/4" J-traps, was the amount of liquid draining from those was about the same as
the output from the still.

Cheers :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Wouldnt a certain length of 1/2' with a cap = the 3/4' inlet?. So its equalized.

The ones I've been making are from a 3/4 x 1/2 reducer through the plate, a short piece of 1/2 as the dropper and a 3/4 cup.

They work like a charm and will give excellent performance :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Here's the underside of a plate, just before cleaning the burs and sticking the cup on the DC.

Cheers Mac, that's how I planned to do it, I didn't think of putting the holes in the two legs of the 1/2", learning something new
all the time :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm not cutting those slots anymore, I found 4 x 5mm holes works just as well :handgestures-thumbupleft:
