Wheel away micro distillery.

Postby MacStill » Tue May 13, 2014 6:10 pm

I've been looking at ideas of being able to move my rig around, I'd love the convenience of being able to just wheel the whole kit to wherever I want.

So here's my thinking so far.

DSC_0336.JPG

No too hard to put a centre drain in under it, could whack a fill port on the back, side or even top, and the whole lot packs away into an inconspicuous toolbox sitting in the corner of my shed :happy-partydance:

The more I think about it, the more I like it..... haven't cut holes or anything yet, but I'm almost convinced :teasing-blah:

edit: oh forgot to mention, the keg is photoshopped in there ;-)

The beast is in hibernation at the moment, I just dont get enough time to pay attention to it at the moment :crying-blue: but that's what got me thinking of going portable :handgestures-thumbupleft: with a ramp I could get it in the office while mrs mac's at work :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: and back out again before she got home

It'd be so easy to mount a cooling manifold & voltage controller in it :D

Up turned keg, bottom TC 1.5" drain, with twin 2.4 Kw elements and a controller sounds good to me. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Could even mount a TC boiler level indicator on Somewhere, the same as on the HERMS. :D

if anyone wants to know I got the cabinet from supercheap, IIRC it was only about $400 and is rated to 110kg or something like that. I took the centre wheels off it to make it more maneuverable so the weight rating would be affected.

I wouldnt have a problem pushing it around a flat area with the boiler full & still head, cuts jars etc. packed away in it, that'd be pushing around 80kg I reckon

hahaha really
good job on the photo shop I didn't pick it.
I was wondering if there was many coopers kegs were kicking around in WA

Were I work we have both types of kegs. we did have 30 litre Magners kegs for
a short time then they changed to plastic enviro kegs. then they changed again to
the same kegs Lion Nathan use. the taller ones. we also have the shorter fatter ones CUB use

Im pretty sure there is an old 18 Gallon Keg up at our beach house

I built my boiler into a small trolley for portability reasons, not at all glamours or incognito however. Nice work Mac :handgestures-thumbupleft:

What about a lift up lid on the trolley to be able to access the fill port more easily?

I like to be able to pour into the keg from a bucket rather than relying on a syphon hose.

Yeah I was thinking fill port out the side, 2" 45 TC pipe coming through the cabinet with a cap n clamp, then just clamp an 8" x 2" reducer (funnel) for filling, if I cant mount a suction pump in the cabinet :o :))
