Little bit more work today.

Not sure if i have too much 100 mm at the bottom. I am considering casters and a bottom drain

If that's a packed section wouldn't it be better above the plates ?
I read somewhere that packed sections below plates are not as effective.

No its just a riser so that the plates are at eye level and also to increase the distance to reduce puking (not that i have had that on my system).

I have no packed section, yet. I was not aware that i needed one.

Any advice there would be appreciated

Little bit more today. Found some holes in the product condenser but ill fill that with soft solder. (Need a little more flux to take care of that)

Cut the end plates for the reflux condenser. Need some half inch tubes so ill have to head off to the scrap yard.

Going to go with 10 half inch tubes in the reflux condenser.

Just wanted to show how i was cutting the easy flange. Piece of cake really

Bend around the tube and go around 1 and a half. You go around a half to help you with the next bend
bending.JPG

Score the tube and then cut with a pipe cutter
Cut tube.JPG

place the ring back on the tube and gently tap with a hammer to ensure its round. You don't want it loose but you want a sliding fit

Braze the joint. I found holding the flame 90deg to the join was the easiest because it got the most heat into the ring

done.

Made these today also

Looking good....but....did you see the fuck up I had when I tried to braze flattened easy flange rings to pipe....got red hot and the compressed air inside from flattenng them caused a bubble to appear on the first red bit ..Solution was to drill a 1mm hole in rings to let the air out. :handgestures-thumbupleft: .

Also just a question on the RC...it will be no less than 3" ??.bt1 made one about 2" long ..think it was the " Tuna can " RC but it was not from memory totally successful at full refluxing

The brazing is not the best.... I mean, by design the silver-solder does not do all the way around so there is a wee gap. :-D (thanks for the heads up though)

the RC will be 3" with 10 half inch tubes. I hope this is enough but given its modular i can make a new one in fuck all

I'll have a crack at putting the rings on everything tomorrow and hopefully pay is in the bank so i can grab some things from MACStill

Question for all the builders out there.

I need to seal the perforated plates between the clamps. What do most people do here. I'd be happy to make something out of baking tray if thats the go or get stuff from Macstill.

With the glass sight glasses do i put a silicon seal on both sides to protect the glass from the clamp?

Cheers

Mac will be able to supply the seals for the modules.

Not sure about the SG seals... from what I've read... you only use one seal.... otherwise it is too thick for the clamp..... but I'm sure others will chip in and let you know.

Hi seeks,
I used 4" t-pieces from the plumbers co-op. they cost me about 35 a piece and I then made the easy flanges from used copper found at the scrap yard.

I'm not sure what your after. Could you post a link to something similar?

not sure if I'm getting this right or not but I just seen something and need to point it out.

I think there's a big stuff up there mate, you've put your easy flanges on the female expanded joins have you ?

If so I think you're not going to get your clamps on, as this expanded to accept pipe size.

Use the ferrule chart in my FSD section to compare measurements, I hope I'm wrong & apologies I hadnt picked it up earlier as I havnt been paying attention to the forum properly over the last few weeks.
