Me too ....my thoughts are that you may , but probably won't for a long time experiment with different plates , and the bother of sweating off the old plate is likely to be inconsequential compared to the effort involved in making the new plates that would be tried ...and as you have brazed the flanges on , and most likely to braze any bits to the plates that you might change out , then soft soldering them in place makes perfect sense to me :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Well pretty wrapped with today!

Soft soldered the plates to the tops. Gave the seals an easy job and there were no leaks with boiling water. All plumbing was leak free. AND NO GLASS CRACKED!

3 windows did not leak with the exception of one. I'll fix that this afternoon and do a vinegar run.

Giddy up! I'll polish it in place i think as I don't want to touch the thing now.

I presume a 6 monthly vinegar run is enough to service a creature like this?

Good work FH no major issues as yet and well on your way.

Your cleaning regime will depend a lot on the wash's you're running through, start with the cleanest wash first working up to the dirty molasses, and you'll be pulling it down less often.

I only run corn rhy whiskey.

The three inch reflux condenser has held it in complete reflux so that great.

No bubbling yet but I presume I need Booz for that to happen?

OK, so this is what she looked like this afternoon.

I'm pretty impressed with the outcome.

It hasn't had its cherry popped yet. We need to see what comes out of the money spout to see if its a success.

On another topic.

I want to get a hole cut on top and fill port added as well as a valve fitted in the bottom. What sort of business does this type of work?

I suggest a stainless steel fabricator it probably won't be cheap but they will do a great tig job, and ask them to purge the keg of oxygen to prevent oxidization on the inside of the Keg. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Did a cleaning run and then pulled it down and washed it again.

Really glad i did because so much crap came out. I was surprised because everything had been previously soaked and boiled in vinegar.

Put a turbo wash through to clean it. (Dosn;t fell like your wasting anything that way  )

Third plate (2nd from top) runs dry for some reason when others are loaded. Full reflux loads all plates though.

There is nothing quite like a bubbler

I should also add that all plates loaded in the beginning but dropped off at about 65% output.

I presume this is normal? No matter how I tried to force them to reload they would evaporate off

Why was the out put down too 65%, bubblers just dont work that way.
Sounds strange to me, something going on there, Not enough reflux or something.
