Trouble with Tradeflame Propane Torch

Postby tenorbrew » Tue Feb 26, 2019 8:27 pm

Hey Folks,

I finally got around to getting an LPG torch to use with my 9kg Bottle.

I bought the Tradeflame Full Flame torch and the handle that goes with it, but when I connected them up to my hose and gas bottle, nothing came out.
Thinking I had a faulty one, I took it back to Bunnings for a replacement, got home and snuck out to the shed and....nothing.
I checked the hose and bottle, no leaks and gas comes out the hose if I take the torch off the handle.

I noticed there is a little brass valve inside the torch base which looks like it fits one of their disposable bottles, and it screws out.
My suspicion is that your supposed to remove this little valve to use it with a handle and hose, but it doesn't mention it on the packaging or the manufacturer's website.

Anyone have any experience using these torches with a hose and 9kg bottle??

Thanks,

Tenorbrew

Should be able just turn that knob to get gas, should not need to modify it..

I have the exact same fitting from bunnings hooked up to my 9kg gas bottle and it works really well, I don't remember having to remove anything. I think it should work as is straight out of the box.

Looks like it's supposed to cut off gas flow when the pressure is too high. Have you tried reducing the flow from your bottle?

Silly question but did you try turning the chrome knob?
That is you on / off / flame control.

Now that you mention it, I'm using the hose from my big gas burner and I think it's high pressure regulator. I'll get a normal hose without a reg and see how I go.

Thanks for the other suggestions, guys. And, yes, Scythe, I did open and close the tap :teasing-neener:

Cheers,
