Another boiler i'm working on...

Postby JayD » Wed Jun 05, 2013 4:55 pm

Hey Folks,
Here is a boiler I'm working on for myself, it's an old 18 gallon keg, I have stick welded in a 4" (100mm) Stainless Steel ferrule, and a 1"(50mm) toe for my drain tap. It is sitting on top of an old car rim with the center cut out. I place a burner under the rim at the bottom but it looses no heat as the rim act like a heat shroud. I simply turn this up side down for my 50lt keg and the square tubes support the keg...a little rough but very functionable and its just my house keg and burner setup...a quickie, I thougth you might like to see it. :handgestures-thumbupleft: comment are more than welcome... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

i know im on the lookout for a 18gal keg, what did you do the cover up that middle bung or did yours not have that? Also what's the actual capacity of your keg? How much do you put into her? oh and she looks real nice :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I really dont know as I have not used it yet, unless I weigh my gas container before and after use...be a bit hard though as it's bigger 45kilo, house type of gas bottle. I will get a photo of my burner for you a little later. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I cut out a filer hole in my 50lt keg and used the piece I cut out as a cap and welded it over the old bung hole... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I used ac to weld the ferrule and toe in, the rods are designed to be used with dc+ or ac, they work well... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

yeah I want a window in my boiler when i get round to it, i used to love watching the wash boil in the duplast during a run. it was so turbulent not like boiling water at all. I wonder how big a window could go on the side of a 50l keg? if you beveled the fitting would a 8inch triclamp work?
