Boil Enhancers

Postby Professor Green » Mon Jun 01, 2015 9:02 am

Hi Folks,

I'm going to be upgrading my boiler from a T500 to an FSD 100l Milk Can with 2 x 2400W elements and was wondering about the ceramic boil enhancers. Will boil enhancers be required in the milk can?

Cheers,

Don't forget the pics!

What shiny stuff have you got for on top of the boiler?

I will certainly post some pics when it arrives.

Starting off with just a 4" pot and hoping to ultimately expand to a Mac 4 SSG later down the track to replace the T500 column.

:scared-eek: Imagine the spirit run time for low wines. That will be a long day

To be honest I hadn't considered that aspect but yeah running a 100l boiler full of low wines would be a bit mad I guess. I went for the 100l boiler so I could run a few 25l washes through in one go rather than spreading them over multiple separate runs across different weekends as I currently have to do.

You don't have to have 100L of low wines in your boiler for a spirit run...

You'll be able to strip a 200L fermenter in 2 runs on a Saturday, then pull a spirit run on the Sunday with 30L of low wines :)

Not sure how much water you need in the boiler to cover the elements though...

That is very true Zak and I doubt I'd amass 100l of low wines at any point in time anyway. The lower element on the milk can seems quite low from the picture. I'll do some measuring and calculations once the boiler turns up it to determine the smallest amount of low wines I could run in it.

The top of the lower element is about 60mm from the bottom of the milk can ;-)
