4800 Watt Keg Boiler Anyone ?

I knocked this up this evening between drinks, turned out ok

Legally obtained Keg :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It's purely a weldless boiler, with weldless thermowell & 3" dial thermometer & will have a weldless drain installed once I pick up a couple of teflon washers tomorrow.

Prefer pick up in Perth as postage would be crazy, but will post if you really want me to.

Lol all good

I was more asking on how you do it? Just struggle along trying to get the nut steady? Or is there a different type valve you use?

Mac, where what do you get for your tube through the keg for the weldless drain valve? I have been looking for 1/2" BSP stainless threaded (externally) tube to wind a ball valve onto.

I can't find the stuff, except the brew website will sell you a 50mm bit for $20 :handgestures-thumbdown:

If you dont mind a little brass in your boiler the solution is easy, most plumbing joints have hollow brass pipe threaded on the outside in 1/2 or 3/4 BSP.... then you just need a couple of brass flanged backing nuts and PTFE tape to have a nice spot for the valve to screw on to ;-)

A bit of brass ain't gonna hurt anyone, the booze we are making is probably more worse for us than the bit of brass

Getting this boiler finished is high on my priority list, I have all the parts needed now & am caught up with building so I'll probably get into it after tomorrows post office drop off :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you have a marine supply joint nearby they should have through hull skin fittings, alternatively there are a few on ebay. Basically a hollow stainless bolt with a flange at one end and a backing nut, they come in different sizes and are a bit cheaper than the brew shop ones. All you would need then is to buy or make a silicone washer and drill the right size hole in the keg.

That's pretty much what I'm doing mate, except I'm just using a few bits I already had here... reckon the drain port cost me $3 :D

I like that thru hull skin fitting unsub, might go and get a couple this weekend :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Has anyone tried a 3/4" drain valve? Would it be too fast?

You could get a barbed fitting with a 3/4" thread and 1/2" barb to screw into the valve which should slow it down if it's too fast with the 3/4" :handgestures-thumbupleft:
