Has anyone tried a 3/4" drain valve? Would it be too fast?

The quicker the drain the better IMHO, it makes rinsing it out a lot easier without the water backing up :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Oh yeah, but the fittings, pipe and valve are a fair bit more expensive for 3/4" so thought I'd find out first :p

Will prob stick with 1/2" as most people seem happy with it, it's not like you don't have time to wait for it to empty...better than taking the column off and tipping it out :? Been there, done that.

Edit: Posted same time as Mac...I hadn't thought of the rinsing part Mac, thanks

Ok boiler is now complete except for the elements being wired up.

Basically it's a no weld required boiler with everything the flash ones have, and doesn't cost a fortune for those who don't have access to welding gear.

:D

Sorry to hijack this thread Mac...

For a 3/4" BSP threaded pipe, is that the outer diameter? Meaning a 19mm hole needed? (And 13mm for 1/2"...)

If anyone wants to upgrade to a 50L boiler, get this one from Mac!! It's got all the bells and whistles :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I was hoping for a more definitive answer :))

Thanks for that

The 1/2" BSP is around 20mm IIRC, with brass or SS fittings the size is actual pipe size..... just like 1" BSP thread requires a 32mm hole.

Definitive enough for you? :teasing-neener:

I have had 1/2 inch drains on by boilers and IMO there are way to slow , on my next boiler i am going 1" drain ;-)

1" would be good, would be a huge ball valve.

I went the 3/4" and seems fine for me, not too worried about speed...I put a barb on the end, so wherever I'm setup in the shed, I can run a hose to the drain. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I do the odd bit of stainless welding here and there, but its time consuming and a good job takes time, not to mention the cost of the parts that are needed. This makes stainless welding quite pricey.

This is a great way for guys that are even a little bit handy to have themselfs a 50 litre keg, as cheap as it gets.

1/2", 3/4" or 1" drain, no matter, it sure beats the shit out of pulling the rig down after each run. You just took 3 hrs to do a run, whats an extra few minutes with a 1/2" drain between freinds.

Good job mac.

Too right EG, this way is for those who like to save a quid and isnt as classy as one of your jobs...this can be done in a weekend with a drill and a file for the DIY guys.

It's good to have options and alternatives, between the two of us we got all the bases covered.... for now :D

I've had a few guys inquire about the boilers I've been making, but some guys just cant justify a fancy boiler. They would be well served with this one.

My two 50L kegs have 1 1/2 inch on them, it can drain the whole thing in 15 seconds :D

Well I am happy with the one inch drain I haven't measured the time but I will next run for interest.

1 1/2 to 2" would be very fast :D

Hi guys, is a bit of brass in boilers still seen as ok or has people's thoughts on this changed. What I'm getting at is, i would like to use a brass tap for my drain, only because I already have one. I will be using ss fitting into the keg it will only be the tap that is brass. Would this be ok? Or should i just bite the bullet and go ss?
