Google an image of a log/linear pot curve. That will give you a really good idea of what is going on with each type. Linear will give you the same rate of control from 0-100%, log tends to not have much change at for example 0-20 and 80-100% but finer control over the middle spectrum.

After a month of waiting for my 500Kohm SSR's to arrive, two weeks for the first order, they sent the wrong ones, they happily corrected their mistake & sent two more, both the wrong ones again. I have two, 2W, 650Kohm potentiometers that I was trying to marry up with two 2W 500Kohm VA SSR's. No joy from ebay on this particular model & the only ones I can find are these.......http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SSR-25VA-25A ... 20f4f43aff

They say 470Kohm to 560Kohm so will they be suitable.

I cant find any 500k pots anywhere in 2W. The 470k won't allow me to get to zero & the 650 will get me to zero but I'll be at about 1/3 on position on my dial. I'm thinking about just going with the SCR.
