FSD 4” Modular

G’day all,
It’s been quite a while, but I’m looking at getting back into the game and having a proper crack at it this time. It’s been 4-4 1/2 years since I’ve ran my still. Aside from pulling it apart for a good scrub, do I need to check anything else? I’m not sure of the life span of the rubber gaskets.
I’ll keep it simple to start, then start asking more questions as the budget allows for mods.
Cheers
Listo

Personally I would go new gaskets for sure

What you have may work a time or two, but i dare say they wont last long, having to shut down for a leak you cant fix blows, grab some spares too.

You say rubber? If they are black and from 5star they will be edpm gaskets, i have a bunch of unused ones i bought with some gear and find them ok, but if its getting broken down a lot, I prefer to use ptfe ones where i can, they twist easier when lining stuff up and a bit less fragile than the edpm

Thanks mate, I’ll get onto a new set in the new year. I haven’t had a drama with them before, I just wasn’t sure how they’d go now after such a long lay off. The still has been left sitting in a few hot sheds since it’s last use

Well Stig it can't be too far away and customer service is prime :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

On a more serious note just do a couple of turns with pfte tape and they make a nice seal for that long awaited run and the time it takes for the new seals to arrive

I was in Shailer Park the day that you replied too! I should’ve went there first before heading home.
Never mind, I’ll give a call in the new year, no great hurry, I don’t even have any wash’s down yet, but I really should get onto that!

I'm about to order some more fittings from 5 star. Is the 1/4" elbow that connects to the parrot from the 2" to 1/4" reducer after the condenser a 90deg or 45deg bend?

I’m in the process of cleaning my still up and replacing the seals, one piece at a time so I don’t stuff anything up. The new seals (I’m only at the parrot, 1” I think), don’t seem to be lining up snug and every time I put my clamp on it’s pushing the fittings slightly offset and not lined up perfect like the old ones. Is this normal and I’m doing something wrong? I'm starting to think about taking a chance with the old one’s as they fit straight.
Thanks

It’s a bit hard to get a good photo, but I hope these show it. Maybe that’s the way it’s meant to be with the new one’s, but the old black one’s sat flush.

I even tried a second set of hands to keep it straight, just in case it was me being special

The big one is 2” and the smaller ones are 3/4” and nothing size wise has changed .
The 3/4 are a bit fiddle to get on but shouldn’t be impossible

Thanks mate, I’ve got it looking a bit better, still a little kick in it but they seem to be where the hinge on the back of the clamp is. I should’ve looked at that before I pulled it apart
I’ll find out tomorrow anyway for my maiden rum run :obscene-drinkingcheers:
