look at the soft solder thread, You think its not strong but look at the rigs made with it. Mac has done some big heavy rigs all soft soldered and I have dropped my 3" pot from 4 foot up direct side hit half full of water and it didnt break or leak after wards (not recommended BTW) :))

Thanks for your advice mate. However, I have propane, not butane.

In any case, it doesn't seem up for the job. It did for about 1 minute, and I wish I knew what I did to get it flowing, but that was it.

I hope the yellow one fits onto my torch fitting. I don't want to have to buy a whole new torch setup.

The yellow mapp gas bottle might fit, please make sure your torch is rated for use with mapp gas :-B

see any value in a CM external 8 - 10 wind cooling arty deco looking 1/4" coil pre reduction to 2" perhaps? Possibly pre product condenser cooling feed?

Reason I mention is my early hybrids use either a cold finger or double helix coil to get the abv's I'm happy with for a single run bourbon clone. Or if your on the mark for abv's why fuck about I guess.

just a couple of corrections here...
I used MAPP the current version (old one not sold any more) Yellow cylinder with a Berzomatic TS4000 tourch. I have both.
Yes you can use the propane head as mac said not supported at your own choice.

Issue is it generates less heat than the TS4000 tourch or Way less than the TS8000 tourch heads. Tips/head sizes way different.

For hard or silver soldering as crow mentioned you really need more heat for especially larger work say 2" plus...place it on a ring burner and use that as well.

To keep heat dispersing for work area use packing i.e soil, sand, old scrubbers

Don't put work on large cold surfaces, cement, vices etc, cos you end needing to heat the lot...clamp it in a vice sure but not sitting on yeh?

It's a 6" thumper (plate) column tee & reflux condenser followed by a 2.5" shotgun with 9 x 3/8 tubes... reckon it'd pull 85% no dramas, with all the condensing capabilities needed :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you got 20' of coil, you wont want for anymore. You can make the coils a bit bigger, it wont take as many winds to do the job. If you are using the bender, well your sort of stuck with that diameter, but you can wind it with the bender, then unwind it by hand.
A 20' worm will handle almost anything you can send its way, but you will need about 30- 40litres of water in the bucket. A 20 litre bucket will work ok, but don't use ice, its knocks the temp around too much.
Consistancy is the goal.
Feed cold water to the bottom area of the bucket, and allow for collection of hot water at the top, and all will be well. Use a valve to control the input of cold water, and you will gain efficiency- something that you may be interested in once you see the waste that is possible, but not neccasary.

Make sure your coil runs downhill at all points, to aviod spoiling your product with smearing.

Smearing happens in all stills to a degree, it's just part of the process we try to minimize.

Smearing is when you get heads or tails carry over into your hearts, there's a good topic about cuts in the newbies corner that will explain a lot of it for you :handgestures-thumbupleft:
