Another pot still

A nice little traditional style pot still for a fella I know.
Any copper is good copper.

I reckon it should be good for about 7-8 litres an hour on a spirit run. We'll see next week when old mate should have it installed.

I'm also getting his fementer started for him. So sometime soon, he'll get it set up, and I'll show him how to do cleaning runs, etc. Then a week or two later, he should be good to run his first bourbon.

I've been trying to get him to get signed up here, but he's anti computer, unless its to do with motorbikes. Oh well can't blame the man for having a hobby like that...

Worst bit is, he and I are both bourbon boys, but he liked my 4th gen mc rum more than jim beam shit :scared-eek: .

haha yeah. I gave mum some of my first rum and she said it was more like bourbon. I still got a bottle there aging but it dont smell as good as the last few batches I made the cuts pretty harsh on the first one so think that could be why.

Gave some to a guy at work few weeks ago I dont think he is game to try it :laughing-rolling: says he wants to wait for someone to try it with him :snooty:

Starts as a bit of 2" tube the right length. The right length is what you want.

Mark a C/L. The circ of a 1/2" tube is a bit under 40mm, so mark a line 20mm each side of the C/L. Allowing for the thickness of the tube itself, subtract that. 2" tube is close to 1mm thick so mark the line at 19mm each side of centre. Run a string from your 19mm mark to the C/L where you want the taper to end. Cut the section out, making sure you are on the corect side of the line. Deburr.
Then anneal the tube, cool and clean. Form the taper as you can with what you got. It will squeeze by hand a lot of the way if you anneal it. Some careful hammering will bring it together.
Then just tig weld it. Polish as needed.

Check any sizes as you go, as this can stuff things up a bit if you are out a bit on your measurements.
