SS Pot Still from old milk truck parts

My mate converted a 20,000lt Milk tanker to a water tanker and had some of the chilling lines left over.



There is a collector with 3 - 3" S/S flanges attached, easily removed into 3 seperate fittings
There is also an elbow from the chilling line which is basically 2" SS pipe rising 500mm in a damaged 3" jacket to a 2" 90 degree bend and then extends another 500mm inside a 3" water jacket already plumbed.

How do the dimensions sound? will i have to extend the vertical column or condenser length?

Boka on the backburner for now obviously !! :D

I take it you want to make that elbow into a pot still?

The condenser probably wouldn't have enough cooling power but you could probably make something out of it.

What is the plan?

Hey S&L - thanks for the reply.

I don't really have a plan as I intended to build a reflux not a pot still.
But when old mate told me he had some S/S parts I saw the condenser and thought it was too nice a bit of kit to leave to the scrapyard and hoped that some sort of pot still could be developed from it.

Since there is nothing like these dimentions floating about in the various plans threads I thought I'd try a shout out to the forum.

What if I was to repair the damaged condenser, then fit it to a 2" column and have run up on 45 and down on 45?

Do you think this would give enough surface area for cooling then?
It seems such a waste if I can't find a use for it.

I don't think the condenser will be very effective.

Understand you don't want to waste it but it really isn't set up for what you want without serious modification

Thanks for the advice S&L, don't want to waste it but dont want to waste my time either so much appreciated.

Oh well, a few spare 3" flanges won't go astray....... Back to the Boka as plan A
