Another Condenser Question.

Pot still design and discussion

Another Condenser Question.

Postby SBB » Mon Jul 04, 2011 1:55 pm

Im working on my new keg based pot still which is of the same basic design and shape as the one I built to fit my 25 litre boiler.
The main difference is that this one is built using 2 1/2 inch pipe. Im trying to use up bits and pieces of pipe and fittings I already have laying around the shed to build the condensers and am not sure that what I have in mind is gunna do the job of knocking down all the vapors especially on stripping runs
The plan is 2 1/2 inch reduced to a short section of 2 inch then a leigburg 10 inches long consisting of 1 and 1/4 outer tube and 1 inch inner tube which will then reduce into a 2 foot 4inch or 700 long lieburg consisting of 3/4 outer and 1/2 inch inner.
The keg will be sitting on a 3 ring burner
Suggestions or and ideas please.

Have you thought about something like this? Bit different than what you are thinking though.

One thing I like about this is that you can then use the conensor for any other still you build in the future as well (make 2 stills and have one condensor)

The 2 1/2 inch condensor knocks down a lot of vapour, mine could have been made a lot shorter, I recon it'ld knock down anything a 4 inch could throw at it.

Thanks for the idea Spud .....I already had a go at winding a coil the other day and stuffed it up completely lol. I think for now Ill stick to something I know I can do.
Ive got a heap of 2 inch, 1 1/4 and inch spare in the shed so maybe Ill just build a bigger lieburg if I have too :? :?

If you've got enough 1" you could go for a 1" over 3/4" liebig like 5Star uses for his builds, but your suggestion above should do the trick nicely ;)

Its not a problem on your end Mr Drainer.
When we moved from the old server to this new one we lost some of the pics, they needed to be re-uploaded but some of the slack members didnt do their job.

Well, I think I know ...but I'm afraid I will be killed (or worse) if I say! :laughing-rolling:

Perhaps a guessing competition is in order here? McStill could offer a prize (afterall he can't take ALL that copper stuff with him to WA, can he?) ;)
