If you are using Burnzomatic flux paste then piss it off and get some liquid solder flux

Using Ezi-Weld 602 flux and Bernzomatic 3mm solder I got from bunnings can you recommend the right products and if they are at bunnings or masters $27 for flux and $15 for solder don't really want to waste money if I am using the wrong stuff.

I sanded all surfaces with 240g clean off everything with acetone maybe its just my poor skills I don't know.

Thats what I wast talking about ...its brazing flux .

Try Bakers flux

Or......do you have a MAPP torch .....don't worry about any flux ...just by a stick of 5% silver brazing rod from Bunnings and braze it .

Brazing copper to copper is a peace of piss ....get it red hot and apply rod ...majic happens :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Now use 50l Keg with Pot head for Rum and Neutral stripping runs on gas .
LM/VM head with 1m packed 2" on Still Spirits boiler for Neutrals.

I have this blue torch http://www.bernzomatic.com/why_bernzomatic.html but will pick up some bakers flux and you say the liquid is better right.

Do I have to clean the old solder off 100% before I try again.

Thanks for all your help yummy I really appreciate mate.

Thats a propane torch so stick with soldering.Clean off all the crap back to shiny again..make sure there is no signs of that welding flux as it will just flow over the area again and inhibit soldering .

Bakers flux that Bunnings sell is good for soldering.Good luck this time.

Grrr bunning near me didn't have the bakers flux.

I do have a roll of 6mm tube does anyone think this would be large enough for cooling the 63mm column.

TwoJ , Id never soldered anything bigger that two wires under the dash of a car before I started in this hobby. It took me a bit to get the hang of it. The wrong heat can cause assorts of trouble when soft soldering. To cold and the solder wont melt and flow, to hot it will ball up and end up on the work bench or floor.
Go steady and heat the job a bit at a time till you find that "just right temp" once you find it try not to get anymore heat into it than you need. Watch the solder flow and follow the joins, then chase it around the job with you torch adding a little solder here and there as you go.

Ok I can solder, with the right flux :angry-banghead: and thanks for the advice SBB on heating it slow but I think the main problem was the flux.

Finished the coil  the solder was a bit rough on the coil part were my first attemped was but the cap is slightly better. I think I can solder the tri-clover unions on looking much better.
