In theory if the condenser condensed 100% of the vapour produced in the boiler then there would be no pressure and the vent would not be needed

Its sile purpose is a form of pressure release when the output valve is shut.It makes sense to have it as far from the vapour as possable.......the coldest end of the condenser.

From memory Harrys original crossflow condenser may hav had lots more pipes in it.They may have been 3/8" too

I might try the daul vent and if that works I will run it into a tee piece along the top, should still look alright, if not going to have to use my old coil.

Did you ever try your old coil vertically..if so...did it condense all

No didnt like the first coil but wipped this one up tonight. Was a bit worried as I only had 3.5m of 6mm left and was just enough to scrap a 6" double wind, didnt think it was going to be enough but with a bit of stainless steel scrubber down the center it knocked down 100% even with no cap on the end so think its a winner. Also with the stubby little RC it still comes in at 2450mm, the roof is 2460mm so there's enough room.

water rate was about same as my other still running at aroud 1.5l/m only problem is that going to be enough for the PC cooling. All in all im pretty happy I finally got a good working RC now I can finish it up and start the runs. :D

PC cooling on a Boka isn't vital mate, it's only really to cool your product down so alcometer readings are more accurate... New coil looks good :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You are still going to use the VM mod ?

Yeah still want to use the VM, is there a problem with that coil?

Oh yeah and the needle valve is still in the mail next week I hope.

Solder the cap on and it needs some scrubbers up the center of the coil, any problems using ss scrubber as it will have to be solder together so will be in there for good.

Naah that coil looks fine .Personally I would rather be able to get in there if needed....no real reason ..jst me.So long as the scrubber is a good one then can't se an issue soldeing it in but I kjust wrapped some teflon tape around the end of my pipe and pushed the cap on so it can com off if needed...or a couple of SS self tapers would work too...it doesnt need to be sealed (obviously there is a vent hol in it ) , just secure.

I guess th only time you need to get in there is every so often for de scunge

Hi mate I would have thought the cross flow condenser you built would have easily knocked down the vapour from a 2400 watt element on the rig you have.

Mine does it easy for my 2 -2.5 inch vm with pump set up and it's not as long with smaller sized internal coolant pipes...

After trying a few different condensers with the same boiler/column setup I have found smaller pipes work better so if I had of used 6mm pipes it probably worked but the 12mm ones were no where near effective enough, also mine is 2.5-2.5" would be another factor.

would like to see a picture of yours too if you had one would still like to have a crack at another one

Have a look under accessories I posted my cross flow condenser build in march 2012 . it was based on Harry's design but I incorporated removable end caps with brass bushes. There was definitely more tubes and they were 1/4 inch inside 50mm shell. Hope the pics help.
