Ok so I'm done (I think) :ugeek:

Quick question for the wise .

With the coil do I go down thru the coil and up thru the straight pipe or in and down thru the straight then up n out thru the coil ?

Its not pretty I know :teasing-neener:

lol, i was hoping some one who runs a coil would answer but my best bet is to run the majority of your water flow in the opposite direction to the vapour path, this gives the most efficient cooling in a condenser.
so in your case, id run water in from the top of the coil and back out through the vertical pipe, so the majority of your water is travelling in the opposite direction to the vapour.

Thanks mate , then thats the way I'll start , but really , its not hard to switch it around and try it both I spose . Really looking forward to having a little (only a little I know) control now .
Ive got a sac TPW out there to clean it so i can have a bit of a play with that .

When I ran myne it went into extension, out of extension and into reflux condenser, out of reflux condenser into product condenser out of product condenser onto floor.
At all times water flowed opposite to vapour flow.

Just curious tho as I have seperate supplies for the RC and the PC . RC is off the mains thru a needle valve and the pC is from my fishpond .

I always ship my cold water to the place it'll do the most damage the quickest. The bottom of the coil. Where the vapor first hits it regardless of Rc design. PC I always go in the bottom first.
So in through the side and straight down and then back up through the coiled copper.
My mind says that if you're trying to cool the vapour at the vapor outlet its already too late. Better off getting maximum bang for your buck and doing it as low as possible in the condenser. Theoretically it shouldn't really matter as the same volume of water is going to condense the same amount of vapour. I just like do it as efficiently as I can and start at the bottom.

Yep , good logical points Warra .

Ive got it plugged in an running now the other way around with a cleaning run (leak detection) going on so I'll switch it around next spirit run and see .

I was a bit concerned about the coil i'd made in that I made a couple of slight kinks while doing it and thought that perhaps it would restrict the flow , but nope got a hell flow so heres hoping :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I think I remember from seeing some of those T500 utube vids that they go for a coolant flow rate rather than the take off rate (bout 600ml a minute from memory) but I'm thinking I should be looking for a take off rate rather than a flow rate ,thats if I can control it at all with the needle valve . Anyway she's up and running now so I will know in an hour or so .

FUll reflux , no problem then once I got the hang of the Rc cooling flow rate (bout 350 ml per minute ) I got the take off to about 3 to 4 drops per second , just bordering on becoming a stream .
Got a little vid to follow , just goign to do some abv's .

3.5 hours to get 3lt of 60% lows down to 1.8lt of 95+% , gotta be happy with that right ?

Well done man, I hope that you watered that 60% down to below 40% before you ran the still. Could be very dangerous otherwise.
