Hi, I am cleaning the guts of my t500 tower, how clean should the copper packing be?

Soak the copper saddles in a citric bath over night and they’ll come up nice and shiney :handgestures-thumbupleft:
The stainless saddles or scourers just wash with warm soapy water
Rinse off all before repacking.

Sorry to rehash an old thread, but when I was researching distilling before I started, I found a utube video on how to clean copper saddles and tonight I had a go at it as after boiling my saddles in citric acid and vinegar and previously I have soaked them overnight on seperate occasions in both the acids I am never happy with the results in that they still had black stains on them. I have done a quick search of AD and haven’t been able to find this procedure but I’m sure someone will tell me if it is already here. Anyhow, couldn’t find the video, but it is fairly simple. Grab a 750 ml bottle, glass or plastic, put in a cup or so of vinegar and add a coupla tablespoons of salt, add the saddles, put on the lid and shake the shit out of it, remembering, when you get to 100, change hands. Copper saddles come out more shiny than boiling or soaking in vinegar or citric acid.

Probably less than a cup of vinegar as I think a lot of the cleaning occurs when the saddles hit each other and if there is too much liquid in there it may dampen that effect.

Dry em and chuck em in a cartridge tumbler?

In the bakery we used salt and lemon halves (plus juice)as scrubbers ta clean copper pots for sugar candy work,I put it down to the slightly abrasiveness of salt :D .cheers hillzabilly

Thought about that but sold mine years ago when John Howard had his hissy fit about guns. Have ya seen the price of them now?
