Removing saddles

Can i run a super reflux without saddles, or thats not good idea... what would be the downside to doing this

I use to have a super reflux, many moons ago.
I was tempted to run it without the saddles many times but never did as I didn't trust the rubber bung in the top that holds the thermometer under such high heat.

Changed the saddles to stainless scrubbers and seemed to work better may be worth looking at other option then the saddles.

I have a non- super reflux still.....same animal without the extra height I believe.
No idea of maker, but believe it may be Essentia.
I was given it some time ago, and it doesn't have any screens, ceramic chips/saddles etc in it.
Should it ?
I was also worried about the heat in the tube as it is such a short height before it hits the thermometer & bung.
