The end cap is not required, but I like to use one
I like the double wound coils, but a single with a cold finger will work just as well
You cant beet a good quality needle valve for the off take, this is the business end of your rig and worth spending $ in this area
A digital thermo that measures .1 of a degree is required, they're only about $8 from a brew shop ;-)
Scrubbers can be found at bunnings, the jumbo ones are huge and perfect for what you need.

About 4 of the above mentioned.... pkt of 6 is around $7

Was at coles today and remembered the auction still photos. Bought 5 coles ones for $5.75.
Sorry to keep bugging as I expect everyone has a *find your own way* perspective.

But as always .. appreciate. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I keep looking at my coil and I'm wondering. Will it function good enough for a 2" bok??
Its only the second wound coil that aint so pretty... lol.

Your coil will be fine mate.

I have a shitty short single wound 3/8 coil in my 3" vm lm combo and it was knocking it down fine on my spirit run. The cooling water was bullshit cold tho.

Don't know how I will go in summer.

cheers Sam.
I got a fair bit of work done today.
So I cut down the 2" to around 161cm. Allowing for room, packing etc.
Cut the slant plate holes in the 2". Firstly I used single hacksaw blade on a template. Then put another blade and re cut the holes to increase the size, looks a bit big but hopefully I can use enough solder :? .
Flattened out some 2" pipe for slant plates.
Drilled thermo hole and collection hole.
Was going to solder everything but figured I'd leave it until another night and cook some dinner.
Will post pics a bit later.
Also flanged the 2" instead of using a hammer I grabbed some multigrips and started notching the bottom outwards.
Fucked up the easy flange. Was hoping i could soft solder them together.........Haha. Anyway Ill see were I end up with that.

Cheers guys.

Admitting its a bit ghetto. Will solder everything and then grind it down? Hoping to solder a flattened 2 inch for a cap.

Alright,
So today,
I soft soldered in the plates, the drip tube, and a thermometer housing. Have not yet bought the thermometer.
I have a brass needle valve for output.
Using a 1/4 inch ball valve for controlling condenser. Sound ok?
Also, Soft sodered a "make-shift" cap and the condensor in place.
Soft soldered an easy flange onto the bottom, not as perfect as mcstills. But works perfectly with the tri-clamp.
Im curious how everyone gets hosing connection to their 1/4"?

Will post pics later.

Cheers

Rae

Id like to add, I made a horrid mess soldering but it all seems sealed. Will see on the vinegar run.... lol

Camera is dead. Will take a better one tomorrow. Still needs needle valve connected. Trying to figure out how to attach hoses. Should've done a half inch coil haha.

Looks good mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Let me know how that half inch coil works out. I gave it a go and there was no fucking way it was happening :handgestures-thumbdown:

Got my digital thermometer today so thats exciting. Essentially the build is roughly complete.
Stripping TPW tonight, got 75 litres to do. And hopefully will fire up the bok on the weekend.
Need to neaten a few things up, cut back the home made end cap, I was thinking I may leave slant plates as is purely because I dont want to stuff up the soldered joints :laughing-rolling: .
And will head to bunning's for some insulation and badabing.

Cheers

You keep using terms like rough :naughty:

It's not the outside that counts, all the magic happens on the inside :D

As long as it works & you're happy with it, who gives a toss.

Great job dude :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Zip on down to the hardware or plumbing suppies store and get a two 1/2" hose tails and the necassary fittings to screw them onto your coil.
You might need something like a 3/8" bsp 1/2" hose tail to connect the valve, and a 3/8"bsp female 1/2" hose tail, but Im not sure on the exact sizes on your fittings, get them to suit. A couple of hose clamps, and connect your garden hose, or tank/pump and drain.
You could go a step furthur and buy the fittings for click-on type hose fitting. They can be pricey sometimes.

And like McStill said, don't scrimp on the needle valve. Its important to how it'll work.

I just use a 3/4" brass plug & drill a 1/4" hole in it, solder it onto your 1/4" tube, a standard garden tap quick connect fitting screws straight on and never leaks :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You've given me the exact answer I was hoping for you bloody legend :handgestures-thumbupleft: .
Now to return $20 worth of fittings to masters
Im imagining a 3/4 inch end cap/plug, thread facing away from 1/4" and 1/4 " hole drilled into the cap?

Cheers

looking good.

when you return those fittings, pick up some 2" pipe insulation & wrap the column up to the bottom plate.
