Great Vid Mulla and awesome rig,
can you tell me what the sound track was?
and how do you add the sound track and count down in the beginning?

The soundtrack was by the legendary testicle clamping band "Clutch" the song was Gravel Road

The countdown thing comes with the software that I used, Corel Video Studio X5.... Corel always make good gear, I'd never used it before but it seems a piece of piss to work with :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm going to do my first proper run on her tomorrow, just wondering how many scrubbers I should pack into my 50 x 1200 column.... should I tease them out quite loose or just shape them and pack them in?

Not too loose but not too tight! If you can blow air through it fairly easy you should be close. Will find out after the first run when you see how it performs

Cheers mate, I'll err on the side of loose and take it from there, when I first packed it the other day I blew through it and thought it seemed a bit constricted :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Me too googe, build is looking good. I might copy a little if you don't mind.

Just scored 1.5m of 2" from south melb scrap for $20, there bin was full of off cuts. Last week they had some 6" too.

That's brilliant. Could I ask two newbie questions.

Firstly, is it sealed at the top?

Secondly, the copper fittings, are they all simply soldered?

I love jobs like this, and have all the tools in my garage, including a tig welder to make it happen. Can't wait to have a go over the Christmas holidays.

I've got a great scrap yard close to me for parts and stuff too. :D

Sorry, another newbie question, what's the holes in the top for?

Is this not "sealed"?

All stills must remain "open to the atmosphere" in other words they cant be completely sealed or pressure would build up from the boiling wash. If this does happen you have created a VERY BIG BOMB! which is the last thing you want. Distilling is not a hobby to be taken lightly, it can and will hurt you if you don't stick to the known rules.

Hey Ernie & Skelty, thanks for the kind words :greetings-waveyellow:

Yeah as SBB said, the top has to be open otherwise you are creating a steam bomb that can KILL, MAIM or burn your shed down very easily, it's great that you taken up an interest in this but make sure read and understand everything before undertaking building anything.

There's some great resources in the forum library viewforum.php?f=47

and this is a good starter guide to building boka's http://wiki.homedistiller.org/Boka_Refl ... w_To_Build

ErnieV wrote:the copper fittings, are they all simply soldered?

Yep they are soldered with silver solder (make sure its silver solder and not lead based), the stainless ferrule was brazed to the copper.

If you've got any questions feel free to ask mate, we all start somewhere :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Not just normal steam ether, Highly explosive and flammable alcohol vapor/ steam. Not trying to scare monger or put anyone off.......just stating the facts.

Its a 1/4" (6mm), make sure you wind very slow when winding the coil, i just wrapped a bit of cardboard box around the first helix to wind the second, you can then soak it and pick the cardboard out with a toothpick
