2 IN ss Boka

Postby Aussiedownunder01 » Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:23 am

Hi i put this on the American site 17 lookers but no ideas
Hi just a couple of questions i have a spare bit of 2 in ss tube 2 meters long i thought of building a boka
Is there an ideal length for the top 3/8 th cooling coil [I already have one 12 in long ]
I see in some drawings the thermometer reading port is just under the top angle plate on others it is 6 to 8 in below the plates

12" long coil is overkill so it will work fine, usually most builds would have them around 8" long.

You want the thermo just under the top plate so it's not in the packing I reckon :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi Aussie,
Mac is right about the thermo location, the idea you heard about having it 6-8" below the plates can be useful too, but this would be as well as just under the plate, not instead of.
Therefor, you could have 2 thermos, 1 to see what your vapour temp at your head/ take off point is and one half way up the column to see the changes in temp coming up the column(it can be easier to make cuts this way).
Good luck :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks for all the info and ideas have shelved that job for a while
Busy now altering my first 1 1/2 in copper boka [extending it putting in another temp port building a parrot and adding a temp gauge to the boiler phew 8-) ]
Its amazing how it all comes back havent done brazing or welding for a few years [to shaky] dragged out the welder and after a bit of practice
Did quite a nice stainless weld [temp gage in boiler ] and silver soldering copper to stainless with the right rod and flux its quite easy
Quite chuffed :-D

Yes if you are careful you can take the outer steel liner off i use an oxy set but you need to be carefull for your first go fill it with water keeps the stainless cool
