ss super reflux detuned pot query

Postby Mad » Sun Mar 15, 2015 2:26 pm

Alright this is probably a broader pot question then specifically ss reflux. So im going to run my lil rc detuned as a pot for a stripping run. Im curious before i go this route though is temperature at all some thing i need to watch? To bung the hole in the top i will still have the thermo in reading just wondering what i should keep it below or if i need to worry about watching it at all?

Forget for the temperature, just discard the first 200 ml like usually.. (It depend on the size of your boiler...)

You'll want to discard more than the first 200ml, obviously.

Jeremy, why not pop into the welcome center and introduce yourself?

Sorry mate, I thought you were going to use the pot for a flavoured wash.

For a strip run (of anything) a fores cut of 200ml will be fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nah im going to wait for the boka before i go that route. Almost got everything gathered for the build. So for straight stripping b4 spirit run you don't need to discard as much fores? Juat cu youll discard it in spirit run im guessing?

How did you go running this detuned? I've been interested in doing stripping runs (unflavored washes) but have read a bit of contradictory info in regards to the still being able to handle the heat in the column. Did you notice or experience any problem?

Sorry guys forgot all about this forum. Little late on reply but detuning this little sucker can strip 50ltrs of tpw in 3hrs grt about 25ltrs of 40%. It comes out a bit warm out of my boiler its hitting the jar at about 45deg but it handles it pretty well.

Would love to know how you get 25L at 40% from 50L of TPW :wtf:

Haha sorry buddy missed that cokup should be about 13-15ltr but i do 2 strips of 50l each. I have 2 60ltr fermenters so put em both on together that way i get a decent charge for my boiler otherwise itd be a bit low around the element is my concern

Thanks for the reply Mad, sounds like an overall success. Should really pull my finger out and detune my little still for a few tpws. Did you run anything like zaks cfw or macwhisky/macrum at all or if anyone has dobe so in the past?
