Where do I put the reflux

Postby stuchambers » Sat Jul 04, 2015 10:17 am

I have a question for those much more knowledgeable then myself.

I have had some very friendly maintenance staff from my work help me make some adjustments to my still.

The first section above the copper dome is about 500mm, the second section is 300mm which i packed with stainless wool, third section is a water jacketed reflux section of 200mm also packed with stainless wool. The top and bottom must remain as they have the correct fittings and the top section gives me some room for botanicals. The whole thing is 2inch with the jacketed section being 1.5inch internal with a 2inch jacket.

My question is what would be the preferred order of the middle sections?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Im only a newbie but would say packed section first the reflux condenser then botanical infuser section then product condenser. Others with more knowledge may chime in. I have only ever run a pot still...

are you asking if you should have a packed section above the reflux condenser?
if so all the packing should be below the condenser.

is essentially a CM (cooling management) reflux still.
packing above the condensor would not achieve anything

Nice upgrade but i hope u have changed ur outlet pipe for a non plastic one

With the botanical basket above ur rc u should be able to put ur pc into full reflux and change botanicals or add more
