Just awaiting to find someone to weld stainless for me, which is proving to be alot harder then I thought it would...

Had 2 pinhole's that I had to fix on the slant plates, in doing so I continued to cause more pinholes. About the 6th time lucky and it held up I believe ^:)^

Wait till you start pulling your own product off, you will be impressed. The fabrication, the science and the education into this art is all rewarded with a superior product.

Cheers, TL...

Need to figure out a way to get garden hose fittings onto this 1/4" pipe now.

Just waiting to pickup the 2" pipe this weekend from my friend

You can build yourself a manifold out of a metal hose fitting one end caps and a couple of copper fittings; If I can find a pic I'll post it.

And it's done! Vinegar run has been completed - will do the sac TPW run tonight.

On my todo list will be sort out boiler drain (skin fitting) and install wheels on the boiler.

Also need to visit Jaycar for a proper thermometer, the Mrs meat cooking one is in place for the moment :naughty:

Pinhole to fix in the condenser connection. Otherwise working great on TPW sacrificial run.

Closed takeoff valve and with element at 100% the condenser was able to knock all vapor down.

Pulling 68% currently in pot still mode (takeoff all the way open, no packing in column) and running at about 3.3ltr / hour.

Heat up time on 25ltr wash was 58mins.

Today I'm running the first reflux run.

Going well, pulling 96%

It's just very very slow. 250ml is taking about 34mins, at what I would call 3 drops per second. Thinking about increasing takeoff rate and seeing if ABV falls. Just not really sure. I knew it would be slow, but just not this slow... :angry-banghead:

Got it currently at 28mins for 250ml.

ABV did not drop by increasing takeoff rate. Still very very slow, that's only ~530ml per hour. I was expecting 800ml - 1L/hr takeoff rates.

Column temp is stable at 78*C

I guess my question is... Can I increase takeoff rate, provided I maintain temp and ABV without any other ill effects?

whats the wash ABV and your packing height? i was getting azeo on my 1.5m packing at about 1l/h with a 9% wash. sometimes 95. cant do it now myself but you can go way faster, especially if it is a second run.

your smearing should be low still at 1l/h. ABV may drop if it is first pass but it shouldnt go below 90 and if you have 1m of packing it should be around 93 maybe but that is just a guess from my experience with a CM

This is a low wines 40% run.

1.25mtr packed section.

I ended up increasing takeoff rate, and have not seen any increase in column temp or decrease in ABV.

Mate with 40% low wines you should be able to hit 1.5L/HR with no problems at all

You'll have to play to see what it can do. Slowly increase your takeoff until the temperature starts to rise and that'll be your max rate. You want to maintain that 78 degrees on your still. You may need to decrease takeoff when the temp starts to rise by itself if you want to maintain azeo. Pull will be slower.

i was hitting azeo on my 1.55m packing at a minimum of 5 l/h as my power was too much for my RC but the ABV was azeo. sometimes you can hit azeo at a fast rate but it can smear the faster you go. that said if i was in hearts and couldnt smell tails i may go 1.5l/h :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So all in all, was a good first spirit run. Thanks to the advice here, next time I will be experimenting alot more with takeoff speeds. I had to shutdown unexpected due to not realizing the wife had made plans for us yesterday evening. :angry-banghead:

Had fired up at 7.20am and shutdown at 5.15pm. I collected 7ltrs @ temp corrected 96.5% In the end I was running at about 850ml / hour, but will be attempting to speed things up next run.

I picked a hearts jar out today to water down to 40% as we have friends over tonight and I am running low. The rest will be left to air for another 24hrs.

Already thinking about building a glasser....
