Nah the still uses an open head straight past the condensor coil so no shocks to be had in that respect.

I am leaning towards keeping it so i can pull it apart. Will be good for transport and another thing is if i weld it up i won't be able to access the packing.

Alright so round two is happening right now. Fully packed the 3 inch section, that took 23 S/S scubbers. Insulated it better (thank god for zip ties) Boiler charged with TPW and cooking wine and heating up. WT you were right mate, it's a 2kw boiler. :shifty:

Modified the connectors to take 3 inch hose clamps and it seems to be on there tighter than a Nun's ummm bond with Jesus.
Been a productive day at work doing still stuff :D It's all good, the boss gets his kick backs!

I have come to realise that i hate waiting for charges to heat up. May have to play some vidja games while i wait, don't worry the computer is right next to the still in the garage. :obscene-birdiedoublered:

And we have product. Settled in to around 78.7c - alcohol content 88% so i either mis-read it last time or i didn't pack the sob enough. I do pack it with a light touch.
Oh well i have 27 more scrubbers left! Happy with the way it is running though.

Will put more scrubbers in tomorrow and run 8 litres of 40% lows. See if that helps.

I think you misunderstood me.
Have a look at 5star's range of modular stills.
Triclamps are the easiest way you make a modular still that can be broken down for storage or transport.

Thanks mate. I will look into those after i have fun playing with this set up though. I like to do things my own way, for better or worse.
And if i can do it on the cheap it's even better! As of now i have spent $16 on hose clamps and around the same on S/S scrubbers on this mod, i could have bought booze with that.
Shiny proven parts are nice though.

you should hit 95% with 1m of packing at 3" too. With my 2" i got 95 with 1m of packing, not azeo but 95 was achievable. I think you need more packing, more the better, as long as you can blow through it and its not blocked its good. You are not going to flood 3" with 2kW.

Cheers. I blew through it after packing and it was easy, too easy. I think the other 27 scrubbers have their work cut out for them, just didn't want to over pack and ~x(

I think i'm going to have to piss the ball valve off though, 500ml take off per hour seems a little slow. It's got a limiter in it.

Recirc water was heating up too much. Just cooled it down a bit and out put has improved a little.

Update time.

I packed the bejebuz out of the column today. Now it has about 60 scrubbers in there. Maybe i should buy shares in the guys that make them.
It's interesting how much faster it loads up now, very happy about that. Was still pretty easy to get a breath through, i didn't think i would be able to blow through it after how i jammed the scrubbers in with a broom handle, smashed them in there.

Settled in at 78.3c

Out put is going off chops compared to less packing, about 1600 mls an hour (500ml in 25 minutes). Cool bananas.

Alcohol content has hit azeo!!!

Great day for stillin' folks!

Just realised i suck at math. 500ml in 25 minutes certainly does not equal 1600ml and hour!

What a noob. :violence-smack:

Just did mate. Combination of ginger wash lows, TPW lows and cooking wine lows. The valve is holding it back so Monday will be fix that issue day.

Product is spectacular. Ended up stopping the run at 94% after temp had increased only 0.7c, still alcohol in the boiler so i will add that to my next wash.

Collected 3.5 liters of 95% altogether (2 litres hearts, could have got 2.2) after adding about 4.5 litres of 88% to start with (diluted to 38%). I am happy with the numbers.

Already made some blackcurrent vodka and it hits the spot, at 40% you hardly know it's spirit. Happy fuckin' days i tell ya!
