Nice work :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Are you going to pack with copper mesh? You'll need some copper in the vapour path.

good thing you went 140mm. I had a 100mm 2" shotty just like yours but in copper and it couldnt hold full reflux for 2kW, needed to knock it back to 180V

now for the controller
volt meter connected to incoming supply 1
amp meter connected to element 1
voltage controller connected to element 1
incoming supply 2 connected to element 2 (boost)
Temperature controller 1 measures boiler temp and turns boost off
Temperature Controller 2 measures column temperature and turns cooling water on
Temperature Controller 3 measures final product temperature
a few override switches and some indicating lights and all done

Why do you need to automate the second element and the cooling water? You're not planning on leaving the still unattended are you?

I just reread it and get it

while he is heating up he will use those temps.

once the boiler is up to temp the second element will switch off on its own, then as the column begins to heat up the cooling water pump will switch on. aftyer that he is on his own.

If i had the money to waste on this i would maybe do it also :)) not that turning a element on or off is a problem or switching a pump on, i plan to run on both elements

Do you have sensors that check for failure? Like if cooling water does not turn on? Or at the very least a visual flow meter on cooling lines? Or a simple timer alarm if element two does not switch off after x amount of minutes?

Thanks guys

I never leave the still unattended, i had the controllers lying around so decided to use them.

I fill up turn on then set up collection jars, chairs, music, clean up ect, and let the system do its job while keeping a check on what is happening

I don't think an alarm is required as you never leave it unattended and can't decide exactly what to do, there is a spare contact on the product censer if product is to hot "alarm" but this only covers one thing and so many different things could go wrong.

Added 2 X needle valves to control water flow to each condenser and 2 rota-meters for visual accurate water flow measurement.

Now the neutral is flowing its time to design the bubble plates.

:handgestures-thumbupleft:

We get a little paranoid when folks start talking about automation.

Top notch still build too!
