Nice piece of work S.D. I will give you a gold star for your sliver soldering work and preparation.

For the amateur machinists out there, machining copper with tungsten carbide tools is not a problem if you select the approriate type of insert or fixed carbide tip tool. Copper and aluminium produce fibrous shavings and being ductile metals, require a positive rake angle tool configuration. The "rake" angle of the carbide or high speed steel tool has to be ground to suit each metal for optimum performance.

Also, the speed with which to machine material at is also important to get best results. Note that copper can "work harden" when being machined and worked.

Consulting a carbide manufacturers selection chart is a must unless you are experienced in the art of machining.

If any one wants info on machining and tool grinding HSS tools, let me know and I will post the required info or a link to a source.

Back to working on the bubbler after the chissy break, a plumber in town was open yesterday so I got some of the stuff I needed to get back to it and do a bit more
I cut all the parts for the shotgun condenser this morning, and will be spending the rest of the arvo silver soldering it all together, between beers and cashew nuts 8-)


The shotty is a 9 barrel x 3/8"- 300mm long :violence-guntoting: , the tubes are crimped a bit to create turbulence in the vapour trail

The shotty is finished being assembled and it's been leak/pressure tested. It had 4 tiny leaks so fixed them up and it's ready to be mounted in the still, after a bit of a tidy up :-D

Spoze youve already thought about cleaning the top of that condenser up so its nice n flat.......ya wouldnt want to much pooling there as it might tend to smear your cuts a tad.
