Bit of a upgrade on the fementer airlock I also put a bulkhead fitting and valve at the bottom for emptying and a little brew pump for filling the boiler :handgestures-thumbupleft: :music-deathmetal:

Im not sure of the science behind it but is it because it's doing it's job? The heat also contributes. I find mine get blacker closer to the boiler. I soak in a bucket with lemon juice, vinegar and salt overnight and rinse with clean water afterwards. They never come out shiny new but at least i know their clean.

I think I didn't clean them good enough to start with and that's after one run but I am now giving them a good clean in a citric acid bath for a few hrs and already look heaps better

So running the pot head and running Mac rum and on my second stripping run(2nd generation) and smells so good after this should have enough low wines to do a spirt run I have all the stubbies line up ready for cuts :happy-partydance:

Question: would these rum bottles with cork tops be good for aging?? Also wil I put so rum chips in there ??

Dominoes from 5star or off cuts from cooperage are better..as is a wide mouth vessel. Cork can be benificial, as it allows breathing just make sure its natural not re-constituted cork which has glue wich can break down in ethanol vapour :handgestures-thumbupleft: still love that boiler :D

:text-+1: on that slick lookin boiler!
I tend to age all my stuff in 4.5ltr glass flaggons (think thats the correct name). They are the older style ones with the large opening and can be found on gumtree from time to time. The newer $10-$15 ones you buy now have a lot smaller opening which oak can get stuck in once wet and swallen if your not carefull.

Ikea do these bad boys
15780041595490.jpg

For $20.

Wide mouth, all glass, silicon and stainless steel. Silicon is the good stuff too, no filler.

If you're not near an Ikea there's also Ikea online.
