Is a 4” column 1.6m tall too much for a keg boiler. Just making a new still mainly for neutral. Will just be a column with shotgun reflux condenser then over 90 deg to PC. Thoughts
I have run my 4 inch, 4 plate glasser and 500mm packed section on a 50L keg boiler without problem but I do have legs on it, so some off centre weight does not make any difference. It would probably still be OK on just the keg but I also have hung a Carter head for gin on mine as well so this does throw alot more weight off centre.
equipment: An 18gall. (80L) keg boiler. A 50L Keg boiler. A 4 plate, 4 inch glass column, 500mm packed section Carter head. A 1.8L all copper micro still for small batches of Gin. Plus other bits.
A bit of bracing or a sky hook or two can help with stability dramatically, I hang my long liebig and pot column from the ceiling with just some wire in 2 strategic spots, it just dangles to one side when disconnected from the keg.
