Re: The Banter Box

Looking for opinions. I had a batch of bwko start to turn to vinegar and I think I caught it early so I stripped it out. There's a weakish scent of vinegar to the low wines. I'm wondering if you fellows think it's worth using for anything. I was considering whether or not to add it to the tpw I'll be stripping and refluxing this weekend but I really don't want to end up with vinegary neutral. My other idea was maybe combining it with some feints and doing a pot still spirit run to see what it comes out like.

Anyone have any insights? Is it trash?

Just had a chat with a bloke who has spent so much time on the turbo (yeast) train I don't think he'll ever get off.

Showed me his still, a monster homemade stainless CM reflux job with more plastic hanging off of it than your average pornstar... Reckons he pulls 92% ABV out of it, when I asked if he's ever got 95% he said it couldn't be done...

He's got 2 100L fermenters full of turbo brew bubbling away, his shed smelt like cat vomit and stale piss. I told him about TPW, he goes 'nah, it'll never work, you'll still need to use turbo clear and run it through a carbon filter'. I didn't bother debating.

I showed him a pic of my pot, and explained how I was going to make real whiskeys and rums... 'Can't be done' he says, 'the closest you can get to good bourbon is mixing 'Tennessee Bourbon' and 'Kentucky Bourbon' essence!'

I just told him I'd bring a couple of bottles around when I had some ready...

Had some family freinds come round the other day, normaly when people see my bubbler in the corner they ask if I am building a time machine, but this couple knew it was a still straight away. Although they had never seen/heard of a bubbler. I had a good chat to the husband about distilling, he too had only ever heard of people making neutral and flavouring with essences. I showed him the rum and corn flakes/wheat bix washes I had going and told him about TPW. He wants to get into it so I made sure he calls me before he goes to a HBS so I can point him in the right direction.

To be honest, 6 months ago (before I started) I thought that the only way to do it was to buy a still, make neutral and essence it... If it wasn't for this site and HD.com, that's probably what I would've done!

Isn't it funny how this shit culture has taken hold. 15 or so yrs ago no one had ever heard of turd yeast carbon filters and only very few used or had even seen a reflux still.

2nd post

I dont think this sort of post is called for, we have a lot of members here that are active on all the distilling forums and I doubt you'll be received well if you continue in this manner.

Check the rules section before continuing, then head over to the welcome center and introduce yourself would be my advice.

We're pretty relaxed here, however we dont like any drama & trouble either ;-)

I screened it the first time I read through the bourbon whiskey knock off. since i was pretty new i thought it wouldn't be funny to imply you get a chubby from horses. But not im totally fine pointing it out now :)
