Mash Tun Question

Postby Zzpop » Fri Sep 18, 2015 9:53 am

Hi All
I am building a mash tun out of an igloo 10 gallon water cooler and just had a question about the height of the manifold in the bottom of the tun.Do I just lay it on the bottom or pack it up to the height of the outlet. It seems to me that there will always be a bit of fluid in the bottom that won't drain.

Most mash tun setups leave a bit of dead space under either a manifold or false bottom. You can have the manifold just sitting on the floor of the tun. If you have a hose on the outlet that drops lower down it will create a syphon & drain just about all the liquid.
Note you put the manifold in with the holes/cuts facing down.
