Alaskan Bootleggers Bible and Glass

Postby Frothwizard » Fri Dec 13, 2013 4:58 am

So I don't know if this is meant to be in the Distillers Library section but I didn't want to clog it up with a random thread...that and while I can see the PDF file for The Alaskan Bootleggers Bible...I can't find the actual thread with it in specifically, if at all. Lucky google found it for me.

Anway, in Chapter 5, Page 133 : books/Chocaholic/The%20Alaskan%20Bootleggers%20Bible.pdf (There's the link for those that don't know it).

It says under "Safety Factors During Distillation" \ "Memorize the following common sense rules".

Dot point 4 - "Avoid using glass containers. Use metal or plastic only".

This seems contrary to everything we believe and know. I'm sure it may be a typo or what not and that anyone reading that book would know better.

Perhaps I'm missing something?

They're saying to use metal or plastic, so that if you drop a jar, it doesn't smash...

I guess it's weighing up long and short term dangers.

Err on the side of caution and just have stainless everywhere I guess.

There are some texts out there that are written about local area ways of doing things, some are outright ridiculous 8-}

Just because it has bible in the title don't take it as gospel and don't believe everything you read on the Internet ;-)

Glass is absolutely safe unless it smashes and cuts you :handgestures-thumbupleft:
