What do you use for measuring/transfer equipment?

Postby Horn_Bee » Thu Jul 28, 2016 7:43 am

Hi guys,

I was curious to know where everyone goes for their measuring and fluid transfer equipment. More specifically stuff like funnels, pipettes, measuring cylinders, measuring jugs, etc. It seems like most of the HBS I have seen stock mostly plastic gear, so I am starting to look elsewhere. In my search I found a place that sells glass lab equipment in Victoria http://www.anpros.com.au/, but being lab equipment it isn’t exactly cheap.

On a similar note, what material are you using for your funnels? I was initially set on using glass throughout, but I have concerns about how delicate it might be. Would stainless be a better bet? If so, does it matter what grade it is?

And lastly, is it odd that 99% of the Alcolmeters I see for sale come with a plastic measuring cylinder? I can appreciate that a hydrometer would be fine, but since an Alcolmeter is primarily used for high-proof spirits is only seems logical that they would come with a glass cylinder?

Try Wiltronics for measuring cylinders, beakers etc. They might be cheaper.

6L glass jars for watering to drinking strength and aging. As I'm running I tend not to use the alcometre as I run off smell and taste once the smell cleans up. Copper funnel.

Picked up a 250ml measuring cylinder, a few glass funnels and a heap of 500ml beakers in preparation for the new still. :handgestures-thumbupleft: I'm going to need a bigger room to store all of my distilling crap in 8-} :))
