G'day team
So I was at the HBS today picking up a (mandatory) pack of LME for a corn flakes wash, which got me thinking...
The opportunity:
600ml bags of 'light malt' LME was on special...2 for $5.95. I grabbed a couple but I'm thinking I might be able to get a bit creative with a few more.
The catch:
They are just on expiry date, still sealed no damage etc, but I really don't know if this stuff has a shelf life or not. My guess is it will be ok, I'd imagine the flavour may turn 'darker' the older it gets but still fermentable.
Some options:
1. Stock up for future CFW washes
2. Put down a couple of MacWhiskeys or similar
3. Experiment with an all LME single malt. Is it possible that 5-6kg of LME in 25L with some bakers would ferment out to something reasonable?
Interested in anyone's experience if you have tried
The complication:
About to start a reno and going to have to pack up the still for a while to move furniture to the shed. How long does this stuff really last for. Chances are I won't get to stilling for the next couple of months so do I put wash on now or can I store the packs until I can get set up again?
Only having a pot I'm also thinking about volume. I'd need to put down 2-3 25L ferments at least to be able to run a spirit run in my boiler so is a pretty expensive experiment
Please talk me in or out of it
