Tomato paste wash?!?

Postby Pittzee27 » Mon Mar 04, 2013 5:27 pm

G'day all! I have been using just a normal sugar wash with turbo yeast. One of the other users recommended that I try the tomato paste wash, I'm very keen to try this! Firstly what yeast should I use? And Excuse me for being a Dumass but what is "pitching" yeast? :handgestures-thumbupleft: cheers pittzee

Hi Pittzee, just use Lowan's bakers yeast from the supermarket.
Pitching is just a term used to "Sprinkle on top"

Yep, pitching just means "throwing it in".

Some brewing yeasts for wines and beers require a "starter" or rehydrating which is the act of adding some warm water and some food (malt or sugar) to get the yeast rally firing and growing before pitching it.

I've been doing that for my fruit based washes but I don't bother with that for TPW.

No need at all to filter this wash before or after running it.

With tomato paste wash do you need enough or an abundance of Tomato paste to get a fast ferment .
Recipe varies from a tub to 200 grams.

Hell no I don't filter. That's the point of a TPW. No junk you need to get rid of.

Cheap, fast, clean easy neutral.

You can use it as is Bear, or as a base spirit for making Lemocello, Coffee Infused Vodka, Gin or Ouzo, Apple pie is another option........the list is pretty well endless

Yeah if vodka can do it then TPW can do it. Steep some fresh fruit in it, add some coffee and vanilla or a little tomato juice and Tabasco for a Bloody Mary breakfast drink :-)

Pittzee27,
You should get around 4.5L all up, I keep about 3L of hearts and run the heads & tails through with my next run.
As we speak, I am stripping 180L of TPW.
