Turning feints into neutral spirit

Postby Undertaker » Wed Nov 25, 2015 1:23 pm

I have a fair collection of cereal based sugar wash feints, (NG, WBAB, CFW) stored up and am thinking about running them through my reflux column to extract some neutral from them. I also have some MacRum feints too. Does the collective think tank here have any input on this idea? If I mix the MacRum in with the others will the refluxing strip everything from the MacRum? Or is there just too much flavour in the molasses base to turn it into a neutral?

Cheers Phil

Heard a few people say don't try to turn rum into neutral as the flavour will carry over, even through a reflux still. All others are fine but don't mix the rum feints in with the rest(unless you want a light white rum)...

Dont own a reflux still so no first hand knowledge..

I wouldn't run the rum feints with your others, it's almost impossible to distill the molasses flavours out ;-)

Use your rum feints in your next rum run :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Keep the rum out and let the others produce a pretty good neutral

OK Thanks. Seems the consensus is no Rum.

So Mac, Do I just keep adding my feints back in each time? Or do they get to the point where you need to discard? I really find it difficult to throw out something that might have distillable drinkable spirit! :))

havent done a rum run but you could use your heads for neutral feints run(?) and throw your tails in next run
